In the second DLC episode, The Writer, we are given a more calm Alan while also seeing the crazy one on the TV's. ![]() A guy babbling nonsense, and just slipping further into a nightmare. But having to deal with being trapped inside there, and slowly being corrupted by the evil, his mind is deteriorating and that is what we see. Kind of like a dream where your thoughts become reality. It's explained that his mind and thoughts are what is controlling everything in the dark place. In the first DLC episode, The Signal, we are seeing him going completely nuts. Anything else going on throughout the game was just people trying to screw with him.Īfter the main game, he is now stuck in the dark place with no way out. What we see on the TV's is a combination of that, but also his mind being aware of what's going on, and trying to fight and break free. He was being controlled, or possessed, by the dark presence. It's explained in episode 4 that he was locked up in the cabin within the dark place for a week, which was the time period between him jumping into the water to save Alice, and when he wakes up after the car crash.
